The Austin Asian American Film Festival is proud to co-present MINDING THE GAP as a part of the Austin Film Society’s DOC DAYS series at 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 10th at AFS Cinema!

Growing up in the struggling community of Rockford, IL, Bing Liu sought and found solace among a group of friends spending countless hours skateboarding. What begins as a hobby making skate videos becomes a tool Liu uses to capture his friends’ messy entry into adulthood, reveal hidden issues in their lives of low wage jobs, depression, and domestic violence, and ultimately, to confront his own abusive upbringing.

Before the film, join AAAFF for a Meetup in the AFS Cinema Lobby at 6:30 pm! Details here.

Winner of the US Documentary Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking at SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL!

“An audacious feature debut on all levels…This edition of the festival has marked [Liu] as a storyteller to watch.” — Daniel Fienberg, The Hollywood Reporter

“…as a work of nonfiction, it’s stunning; as a piece of storytelling, it’s heartbreaking.” Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
